Featuring photographs and text by Sydney-based Malaysian artist Simryn Gill, this book was produced by Gill for the Singapore Biennale in 2006. The book was originally available only at the newspaper kiosk in the railway station, thus, reiterating the site-specificity of the work and its primary function as a common 'guide' to the station. The text explores the implications of the colonial murals in the station's main hall against images, which capture the ebb and flow of the contemporary traveler. Through this unlikely pairing, the political, social and historical complexities of this transit space unfold.
